The chromium-molybdenum series of ferritic steels such as 2.25Cr1Mo steel is used widely in the oil refineries, chemical industries and power plants because of their high strength at elevated service temperature, combined with microstructural stability. The properties required for these applications include creep resistance, corrosion resistance and weldability. Steel products manufactured for use under the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code must comply with the appropriate ASME specification. Each specification includes information on ranges and limits of composition, minimum mechanical properties and other functional requirements.
