dc.descriptionThe chromium-molybdenum series of ferritic steels such as 2.25Cr1Mo steel is used widely in the oil refineries, chemical industries and power plants because of their high strength at elevated service temperature, combined with microstructural stability. The properties required for these applications include creep resistance, corrosion resistance and weldability. Steel products manufactured for use under the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code must comply with the appropriate ASME specification. Each specification includes information on ranges and limits of composition, minimum mechanical properties and other functional requirements.
dc.description.abstractAn investigation of the mechanical properties and microstructure of weldments was done after the application of pre-heat and/or post weld heat treatment. This study examined the response of the material to pre-heat treatment and PWHT. The pre-heat investigation was carried out on samples welded with pre-heats of ambient temperature 35°C and at standard 150 °C. The PWHT investigation was carried out on samples at 700°C and without PWHT . The results of this experimental program showed that pre-heating had no noticeable effect on their properties. It is, however, expected that the influence of the pre-heat temperature would be limited to the root pass. The results from PWHT showed that welding without PWHT have higher hardness to those without PWHT for all weldments.
