Women with GDM are at increased risk of persistent glucose intolerance after delivery, and yet, many are not retested postpartum. 22 (34.4%) of those tested in our study had T2DM. This showed that the prevalence of T2DM at early postpartum is high and the careful early postpartum follow up is highly recommended.
In this study, according to our postpartum follow up of the patients for the result of postpartum OGTT. Rate of postpartum visit and postpartum glucose testing after GDM are low. Where the rate of converters is high, we emphasizing on the importance of patients’ education during pregnancy for the necessity of the self blood sugar monitoring throughout the pregnancy, postpartum care and glucose testing to reduce the rate of subsequent diabetes later in their live.
