| dc.description | The results presented clearly show that MNRNP is an area of national importance for the conservation of wild mammals. Fires were the largest threat to the reserve mammal species, in addition of impact of fires on the flora and the soil of the reserve, fires also were responsible for the habitat loss to some reserve species. Hunting also were recorded in and at the adjacent lands of the reserve that might lead to threatened or extinction of some species especially those wandering near the human areas. Serious priority recommendations concerning mammals and future studies were presented on the basis of this survey. | |
| dc.description.abstract | The first survey and detection of wild mammals of Misallatah Natural Reserve and National Park (MNRNP) were conducted from August 2012 to January 2014.The survey focused on direct observations depending on diurnal walking surveys at different times within the seasons of the year, digital camera photographs were used to record the signs, and Olympus binocular to evaluate the surroundings. A bait with a sheep and chicken refuse, fruits, vegetables, and seeds were used to attract the reserve species to visit the Bushnell HD trap camera that used within the thirty five night tours to obtain the date on the more secretive and nocturnal species. Fourteen mammalian species (Hystrix cristat,Ctenodactylus gundi, Lepus capensis,Mus musculus,Erinaceus algirus, Gerbillus campestris, Jaculus jaculus,Pipistrellus kuhlii, Genetta genetta,Poecilietis libyca,Hyaena hyaena, Vulpes rueppelli, Vulpes vulpes, and Canis aureus) were documented and confirmed present in MNRNP. The percentage of the detected rodents were about 36%, and the carnivore were about 43%.
