| dc.description | Discussion/Conclusion: Nurses’ knowledge about HIV/AIDS appears to have an effect on their attitudes towards HIV/AIDS patients. However, other factors may also affect these attitudes, such as religious and cultural backgrounds. The behaviours and practices of nurses are associated with attitudes. There is a need to introduce educational programmes in order to improve nurses’ HIV/AIDS-related knowledge, attitudes, behaviours and practices. | |
| dc.description.abstract | Abstract: Introduction: HIV/AIDS is an infectious disease that affects every country in the world. There is no cure, which makes it one of the world’s most dangerous diseases. In developing countries, resources are often too limited to buy the antiretroviral drugs that can be used to treat HIV. Aim: To assess the knowledge, attitudes, behaviours and practice of nurses in developing countries in relation to HIV/AIDS, using a narrative review approach. Findings: After reviewing the selected articles, four themes are found to help explain the relationship between knowledge and attitudes. These are: poor knowledge and negative attitudes; good knowledge and positive attitudes; poor knowledge and positive attitudes; and good knowledge and negative attitudes. | |
