This study explores the using of note-taking as a language learning strategy by Libyan EFL students at Gharian University. It also aims to find out the students' perspectives on the importance of using note-taking and to what extent they use this strategy. To achieve this aim, mixed approach was used in this study, and quantitative and qualitative data were collected through a structured questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The sample of the study consisted of fifty-three university students who voluntarily participated in answering the questionnaire. Furthermore, five students from the Department of English Language at Gharian University were (purposively) selected for the semi-structured interview this selection was based on some criteria related to study aims and to gain a deeper insight into diverse perspectives of EFL students. SPSS program was used to analyse the data gathered from the students' questionnaire and thematic analysis was used to analyse the participants' responses in the interviews. The findings of this study show a statistically significant value which was less than the p-value of (0.05) That means, there were significant differences among students' responses. Firstly, the importance of note-taking strategy increases with academic level (2nd year 61.25%, 3rd year 62.24%, and 4th- year 96. 66%).Secondly, students across all years frequently use this strategy. Moreover, there were some factors that motivate students to take their notes on the other hand there were reasons limit their use of this strategy. In light of the results achieved by the current study, the researcher provided some recommendations for teachers, students and the Ministry of Education. In addition, the findings gained from this study lead to open new doors for further research in this field
