dc.descriptionAmmonia production arisesfrom the conversion of nitrogen gas present in the atmosphere into ammonium ions bythese bacteria, which leads to alkalinity of the soil and a rise in pH. In addition, thestudy also revealed a decrease in NFB numbers over time, indicating that sustainablegrowth and performance require other elements to support the continued growth ofammonia production. Which confirms the role of NFB in enhancing soil fertility byfixing nitrogen. Overall, the results underscore the potential of isolated NFB assustainable alternatives to nitrogen fertilization in sugarcane agriculture, helping toenhance agricultural production.
dc.description.abstractThe research aims to address the challenge of nitrogen availability in sugarcanecultivation by searching for environmentally friendly alternatives to traditionalnitrogen fertilizers. It focused specifically on nitrogen-fixing bacteria (NFB) collectedfrom sugarcane fields in Malang, Indonesia, between September 2023 and February2024. Soil samples were collected from 3 districts of Blitar, Ngawi and Glugur Malang, and NFB were isolated using specialized growth medium. These strainsunderwent genetic characterization via 16S RNA sequencing to evaluate theirdiversity and capabilities. NFB isolation was performed using serial dilution methods,followed by agar plate incubation and subculture to obtain pure strains. The Gramstain distinguishes between Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
