This study investigates the performance of a vapor compression refrigeration system using two distinct refrigerants, R134a and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), with a focus on evaluating their energy efficiency and environmental impact. The experiment employs varied operating conditions to comprehensively assess and compare the system's performance characteristics with these refrigerants. The experimental setup is meticulously designed to accommodate both R134a and LPG, allowing for precise monitoring of critical parameters such as refrigerant flow rate, compressor power consumption, condenser and evaporator temperatures, and refrigeration capacity throughout the experimental trials.
The energy analysis component of this study focuses on evaluating key metrics such as the Coefficient of Performance (COP) and overall energy consumption for both R134a and LPG. Comparative analysis of these metrics offers valuable insights into the comparative advantages and limitations of using LPG versus R134a in terms of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. This research contributes significantly to ongoing efforts aimed at optimizing refrigeration systems to achieve enhanced energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact. By elucidating the performance disparities between R134a and LPG, this study informs strategic decision-making processes regarding the adoption of alternative refrigerants in diverse commercial and industrial applications, thereby potentially advancing more sustainable practices in refrigeration technology. LPG proposed in this study seems to be an appropriate long-term candidate to replace R134a as a new generation refrigerant of VCRS, because of its well
