| dc.description | The Roche Cobas Integra 400 plus, except insulin levels measured by Abbott architect i1000sr device. And leptin serum measured by Single humareader human company. A significant positive correlation was found between fasting leptin with fasting insulin and BMI in type-II diabetic patients. And a significant positive correlation was found between fasting leptin, with cholesterol in diabetic patients.While there was no correlation found between fasting leptin with low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL), High density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL), glucose, HbA1c, urea, Creatinine and triglycerides. The major determinants of serum leptin levels in diabetic patients were BMI and insulin level, but not fasting blood glucose. | |
| dc.description.abstract | Leptin, the product of the ob. gene, is secreted by the adipocyte and is involved in the regulation of body weight, energy homeostasis and a wide spectrum of biological activities. This study aims at the relationship between levels of leptin, and insulin with BMI, and to identify the fasting glucose/leptin and glucose/insulin ratios as a new simple method for the detection of IR in type-II diabetic patients. The target population was type-II diabetic males and females aged 29 - 77 years from diabetes and endocrinology centers in Tripoli - Libya. Blood samples were collected from 53 type-II diabetic patients and 29 controls. Fasting overnight venous blood sample (about10 ml) were drawn by the researcher himself into vacutainer plane tubes from all individuals. Then, serum samples were obtained by centrifugation at room temperature at 5000 rpm/ 5 minutes. | |
