The major aim of this study is to shed light on the problems that influence Libyan pupils of English at the primary schools in the English reading and the factors behind those problems. To achieve this aim, the researcher used two methods of data collection which are a questionnaire and a classroom observation. A sample of 108 teachers completed the questionnaire and the researcher observed 15 classes to complement the data collected by the questionnaire to have an overall view of the topic under investigation. These methods were used to find out the obstacles that prohibit the primary school pupils in Sabrata/ Libya from being able to read in English properly and to figure out the factors that affect them.
