This study investigates the difficulties that encounter Surman secondary school students in understanding the English texts in their course book. Eighty students and ten EFL teachers participated in this study by completing two close-ended questionnaires. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with five EFL teachers from those who participated in the questionnaire.
