This study` major purpose was to investigate the teaching methods adopted by English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers in the instruction of literature within the educational setting of Libya. Furthermore, the research aimed to investigate the main variables that impact the decisions instructors make while choosing their teaching approaches. The data of this study was collected through using qualitative research tools in the form of nonparticipant observation and semi-structured interview. The participants were the literature EFL teachers who were teaching literature during the academic year (2022-2023) at Sabratha University's College of Arts and Education and Abu-Essa College of Education. Furthermore, thematic analysis was used to analyses the data. The findings highlighted the teaching approaches implemented by Libyan EFL teachers to teach literature. These include the Periphrastic approach, Information-Based approach, Language-Based approach, Personal-Response approach, and the Discussion method. It also highlighted a number of essential factors that have a significant impact on the approaches and methods that the participating instructors choose to use. These variables include the literary text's features the objectives of learning, the unique characteristics and attitudes of each student, their age, skill level, and educational requirements, in addition to a shortage of institutional support.
