| dc.description | There has been an increased demand in recent years for ELTs all over the world and the need to train teachers became evident. Teacher educators were given the opportunity to develop a wide range of innovative courses and techniques for training teachers. The vision that guided much of the TTCs was Smith's guidelines called:- Teacher for Real World.(1984:71). He called for complete reform in TE, and the training courses he proposed would emphasize first, the knowledge of theory that teachers need to interpret common training situations | |
| dc.description.abstract | The training of teachers especially in devolving countries is critical element in designing and carrying through any reform of education in the development and use of innovative approaches. However, Wringle (1980:112) has identified some of the weaknesses in present TTCs in those countries and has identified the board direction in which new reform measures need to be explored. Nonetheless, many countries have witnessed a number of significant developments in the initial training of teachers. Academic standards have been raised to the point that at the present time, all entrants to the profession will need to have degrees in order to qualify for admission. Most new entrants are more likely to have extensive training in professional education. This involves more practice teaching and a greater understanding of educational theory. | |
