The simulations have been carried out by Aspen Hyses simulator using the thermodynamic Uniquac as coefficient model. The two processes considered in this study (ED and PSD) were simulated with the same basic data and have been optimized independently from each other and the best configurations have been evaluated economically. In the next step, the possible heat integration in each sequence is applied. Comparisons are made between the convential and heat integrated configurations for extractive and pressure swing processes. In this comparison the total annual cost is used as the objective function to be minimized, which includes annualized capital costs and operating costs. The results of simulation and economic evaluation of the two separation process show that, the consumption of utility of HIPSD could save up to 42% compared with convential ED before heat integration and 20 % after heat integration. The TAC reduced by 37.11% before heat integration and 24% after heat integration. In this work we have studied, simulated, and evaluated economically two separation processes an extractive distillation process and a pressure swing distillation process for the separation of binary liquid azeotropic mixture of iso butyl alcohol and iso butyl acetate mixture.
