The simplest definition of (ERP) is a set of commercial computer programs that are integrated and linked in a database or key information unified to facilitate the flow of information between departments and sections of the institution such as planning, manufacturing, sales and marketing, distribution, accounting and control, financial and resource management, human resources management, project management, and management inventory, service and maintenance, transport and e-commerce. The focus in this study has mainly been on the success of the system , the factors behind system failure and the factors that play a key role in the success of such system, its proper running, and the expected results of the acquisition system factors. This research has also been investigating and evaluating the success factors and failure of the enterprise resource planning system. This investigation has been carried out through two case studies of this system which was purchased to General Company for Electricity and Zawia Oil Refinery. Personal interviews and field visits and a questionnaire were adopted as a methodology for the study. The most important results that have been arrived at are to identify the critical success factors and failure to implement such an enterprise resource.
