In Libyan educational system, writing is an essential process not only as an important skill that should be mastered by students but also as an assessing instrument used to measure students’ progress. Actually, teachers are used to teaching writingby teaching sentence structure and grammar neglecting the fact that writing is a way of thinking; therefore, the students’ composition papers are disappointing and have serious deficiencies. This is asserted by Hassan (1992) as he states that students do not know how to organize their thought and lack awareness of typical features of writing in Englishsuch as style , indention, organization , cohesive ties and cohesion.Theworld is changing rapidly and this has caused a great change in the Libyan society that requires developing the whole educational system because achieving the progress of any nation should be through its educational instructions. As a result, some researchers agree that with developing learning strategies, students become more aware of their own thinking as well as more knowledgeable about cognition in general. Therefore, students should be encouraged to move out of the classroom to bridge the gap between language study and language use, and to be responsible for their own learning.
