الوصف
This study examines the geostrategic transformations that have taken place in the Mediterranean Sea since 2011 and analyzes their implications for Libyan national security within a regional and international context characterized by intensified competition and overlapping interests. The study Is based on the assumption that the transformations affecting the Mediterranean space have contributed to deepening the fragility of Libya’s national security by expanding external interventions, internationalizing the internal conflict, and linking the Libyan crisis to strategic calculations related to energy, maritime domains, and balances of power.
The study adopts a methodological approach that combines the descriptive analytical, historical, and foresight methods in order to trace the evolution of the Mediterranean geostrategic environment and analyze the roles of regional and international actors in reshaping the security threats facing Libya. The findings indicate that the collapse of state institutions and the proliferation of power centers after 2011 made Libya more vulnerable to the effects of geostrategic competition in the Mediterranean, particularly in the context of competition over energy resources, the security of maritime routes, and the challenges of irregular migration.
The study also demonstrates that the persistence of political divisions and external interventions has weakened national sovereignty and the unity of security decision
making, negatively affecting political, security, and economic stability. It concludes that strengthening Libya’s national security requires rebuilding state institutions on legitimate and effective foundations, formulating a comprehensive national security strategy, and enhancing regional and international cooperation in ways that support stability and limit the Impact of geostrategic competition on Libya.
