الوصف
The C-arm has become increasingly popular in the practice of orthopedics operations. It's wide use in the various orthopedic outpatient clinic has been reported. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the practice efficiency and radiation exposure to the patient when the C-arm is used in the orthopedic outpatient clinic. The types of internal or external surgical procedures for fractures are numerous and vary according to the type of fracture, location, age of the patient and bone strength, which is general and the most common. But there are basic types of internal fixation,1- spinal screw 2-slides and screws 3-external stabilizers 4-metal wires and pins all being used for the specific surgeries for hands, arms, legs, foots and pelvises. SBEA and Abosalem radiology department uses C-arm in most of the major medical operation with no due attention for the radiation exposure that has been implicated on the Doctors, specialists and patients. For this reason, the present study has investigated the amount of absorbed doses using Optical Lumpiness Dosimetry "OSL" during actual medical operations in both of the Operating Theater "OT". The radiation physicist has followed the shallow ,lens and deep radiation doses to all involved personal inside the OT during C-arm utilization and has calculated the amount of skin exposure in milli- Sievert "mSv". The average skin exposure to the doctors and specialists in SBEA was averaged between 11- 16mSv per three months while the normal for the same period should be less than 5mSv according to National and International standards. For SBEA patient the average absorbed doses were in the range of 3-5mSv for one month period, were, the allowed for this period should be less than 2.5mSv. This study reports 2 important findings. First, surprisingly, the C-arm used a slightly higher radiation dose than standard imaging with plain radiographs. Second, use of the C-arm saved time and improved the efficiency of the clinic visit.
