The potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) plays a significant role in global agricultural economics and food security, being ranked fourth in importance after wheat, rice, and maize (Saar-Reismaa et al., 2020). In Egypt, potatoes constitute one of the primary crops for local consumption, ranking second only to tomatoes in terms of both monetary value and overall production. Notably, potatoes represent Egypt's largest horticultural export. In recent years, the European Union has been the recipient of approximately 70% to 90% of Egyptian potato exports, with annual domestic production reaching approximately 6 million tons (FAO STAT, 2022). Potato cultivation in Egypt is subject to stringent measures and close oversight by phytosanitary authorities. The Egyptian National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO), operating under the Central Administration of Plant Quarantine, oversees the entire production cycle to ensure the proper implementation of official phytosanitary measures concerning the importation of seed potatoes and the exportation of ware potatoes. This supervision occurs in coordination with the Potato Brown Rot Project in Egypt.
