dc.descriptionthe implementation of the extended surfaces as a method for heat transfer enhancement in channels is investigated. Several geometries are considered and the effect of several parameters on the flow characteristics and the heat transfer enhancement is investigated as well. The parameters of interest are the extended surfaces’ height, thickness, in-between spacing, and the Reynolds number. In addition, the effect of changing the shapes of the extended surfaces tips’ on the fluid flow characteristics and heat transfer is also investigated. Seven different geometries of the tips’ shapes are presented for the investigation purposes.
Enhancement of heat transfer is relatively a new topic of research and its evaluation is needed to measure the performance of any enhanced technique. Lattice Boltzmann method is also a quite new numerical technique specifically the implementation of thermal models. In this research, thermal lattice Boltzmann method was utilized to simulate heat transfer enhancement in channels of two and three dimensions. Implementation of extended surfaces is a common practice for heat transfer enhancement from hot surfaces due to its significance in different fields of engineering application.
