Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADC) are key components in almost all modern communication systems. High speed and high resolution ADCs are required in many applications Nowadays, there exist a lot of techniques that allow a very high precision conversion, such as the analog-to-digital conversion based on the sigma delta modulation and oversampling [1]. However, the process of converting the analog signal to a digital one often limits the overall system speed. In contrast, there are other techniques that provide a very high speed conversion but have just an average or even low resolution, Associating the high speed and the high resolution in one ADC has been long time a tough challenge in the research of analog-to-digital conversion techniques.
Analog to digital conversion have been widely used in the measurement, telecommunications, digital signal processing. Sigma delta modulation is a digital signal processing, or DSP method for encoding analog signals into digital signals as found in an ADC with high resolution and low cost. So sigma delta modulation has become a very useful and widely applied technique for high performance analog to digital (A/D) conversion of narrow band signals.
