الوصف
Although the sector of the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning systems (HVAC) has seen a dramatic development, operational issues are increasing. One prominent problem is the degradation of evaporator performance and the overall efficiency over time as a result of oil fouling. This work aims to investigate the effectiveness of a refrigerant additive, Cold Plus to mitigate and/or overcome this problem. Cold Plus treatment has been applied to a Roof Top Cooling Unit (RTU), which is located outside Boulder Creek building, at University of Colorado Denver. In addition, an attempt was made to determine the optimum amount of additive that will improve the efficiency of RTU. Cold Plus treatment was applied to the unit and data were logged over a period of three days. First, loggers were installed at specific locations on the unit to monitor temperature change resulting from using the additive. It is important to indicate that the unit has been pre-treated by NREL before being installed at UCD. Data were logged periodically while unit were operating. The test started on July 17th, 2018 from 9:00am to 6:00pm and continued until July 19th, 2018 for the same duration. Although the unit has two merged circuits, only one compressor and hence one circuit was operated. Finally, collected data were analyzed and showed an improvement in efficiency.
