| dc.description | XML and relation database are two of the most important mechanism for storing and transferring data. A reliable and flexible way of moving data between them is very desirable goal. The way data is stored in each method is very different which makes the translation process difficult. To try and abstract some of the differences away a low- level common data model can be used. To successful move data from one model of the other a way of describing the schema is needed. Until recently there was no widely accepted way of doing this for XML. So, the web applications that needs to exchange or integrate data. As XML becomes the standard for data exchange among applications (over the web), transformation of XML data also becomes increasingly important. XML is useful for modeling data of all types. The semantics web sets the standard for a universal and interoperable data representation that is not only readable to the naked eye but also to computers. The use of uniform resource identifier (URL) and the capability to use description logic through semantic ontology languages makes semantic web the favored framework to represent knowledge. Semantic web standards play a vital role in making the exiting relation database, which is locked behind in the “deep web”, available for technical processing. In order to map the relation database in its entirety the methodology should not only map the data but also the domain specific knowledge. The techniques and their implementation presented in this work use the meta- data from the data dictionary to construct the initial semantic repository, while using domain specific knowledge during in-processing stage. The process of mapping Relation Databases Model to semantic Web (RD2SSW) using domain specific knowledge involves most of the current – semantics Web Layer components – RDF, RDF schema, query languages, rule and logic. | |
