The Late Palaeocene Al Dahra Formation, which is deposited on the Al Dahra-Al Hufra platform developed over horst generated during rifting in the Mid-Cretaceous, is the main hydrocarbon-producing unit on the Dahra-Jofra field, which is located in the western Sirte Basin. In the study area a descriptive lithofacies scheme for the Dahra Formation in the cored well F98-32 is able to be constructed by integrating the sedimentological core description and petrographic observations with the use of wireline log signatures. The facies stacking patterns of well F98-32 are examined in terms of possible sequence stratigraphic context, and the wells are correlated through the integration of this analysis with the wireline logs data. These lithofacies form identifiable and repeated associations, which indicate depositional cycles that generally become shallower upward sequences with possible to identify key sequence-stratigraphic surfaces such as flooding surfaces and exposed surfaces that characterized by evidence of vadose diagenesis. The depositional model developed from the investigation of the area suggests the presence of a shallow-water carbonate ramp ranging from restricted to open inner ramp setting, with localized patch reefs transitioning into mid- to outer ramp setting.
