dc.descriptionExposing maize plants to water deficit stress (WDS) causes a huge reduction in the grain yield. Current breeding programs should pay great attention to develop hybrid corn of high tolerance to WDS. Eight inbred lines with obvious diversity in their adaptive traits to WDS were used in the present investigation as parents of diallel crosses (without reciprocals) to assess the genetic diversity of the parental inbreds and its relationship with heterosis, estimate general (GCA) and specific (SCA) combining ability, type of gene action, heritability and genetic advance of these traits. The evaluation of 8 inbreds and their 28 F1 hybrids was carried out in 2020 and 2021 seasons. A split plot design in randomized complete blocks arrangement with 3 replications was used. Main plots were devoted to watering treatments, namely well watering (WW) and (WDS),
