Abstract Water desalination techniques are commonly used nowadays to overcome the scarcity of fresh water in some regions of the world if brackish water and saline water are available, Libya is one the countries that uses seawater desalination techniques to provide safe water for drinking and domestic uses. The study was concerned with three different techniques of distillation mostly used in the western region of Libya: Multi-Stage Flash Distillation technique (MSF) the five desalination plant; Multi-Effect Distillation (MED) and Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology (desalination plant in Tripoli medical center to desalinate water from three high salinity ground wells). Physical and chemical properties parameters of produced water of the stations were compaired with rainwater parameters.
