| dc.description | In modern industrial facilities, thousands of electric motors work together in the manu-facturing process. A great percentage of the applied motors are essential to the process. An unscheduled shutdown occurs if one of these motors were failing. If it were possible to detect a developing fault, it would be possible to schedule an orderly shutdown of the complete process with more efficient utilization of material and labor. Because of the great expense associated with unscheduled downtime, it may be cost effective to con-tinuously monitor the critical motors for certain incipient faults before on: of these mo-tors become inoperable[1]. People who work on condition monitoring of induction motors often need an accurate model to predict performances and to extract faults signature. Early detection of abnor-malities in the motor will help to avoid expensive failures. | |
| dc.description.abstract | Motors are critical components for electric utilities and process industries. A motor fail-ure can result in the shutdown of a generating unit or production line, or require that re-dundant plant be utilized to circumvent the problem. One major cause of failures is breakdown of the turn insulation (Turn to turn fault). This is fault must be detected in an early stage before propagating to a phase to ground or a phase-to-phase fault and occur-ring complete damage in motor. The condition monitoring of the faulty machines can significantly reduce the costs of maintenance by allowing the early detection of faults, which could be expensive to repair. | |
