They have also led to legislation, regulation and expenditure by government, at national and local levels, to protect the environment. | dc.description.abstract | The fight against desertification in Libya has experienced several changes over the last fifty years, and tremendous efforts in Libya have gone into rehabilitating land into productive uses with great contribution to existing knowledge in reclaiming desertified land. Clearly, it is not possible to give a detailed account of the efforts to combating land degradation and desertification in all of its forms by each area in this vast geographical country. Instead, we have selected specific example and case study from across the region that exemplify the same approaches from labor intensive, low technology solutions to large-scale measures that rely more on technology. Early in 1965, the fight against desertification was on a limited scale, when the funds are limited, and in these early years, it was regarded as a social activity development project. | |
