dc.descriptionStroke is a leading cause of long-term disability worldwide, significantly affecting the quality of life of millions of individuals. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that stroke is the second leading cause of death globally, accounting for approximately 11% of total deaths each year (WHO, 2023). One of the most debilitating consequences of stroke is the impairment of upper limb function, affecting around 80% of stroke survivors (Langhorne, Bernhardt, & Kwakkel, 2011).
dc.description.abstractA stroke, also known as a cerebrovascular accident (CVA), occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is interrupted or reduced, preventing brain tissue from getting the oxygen and nutrients it needs. This can lead to the death of brain cells within minutes, resulting in neurological deficits. Strokes can be classified into two main types: ischemic, caused by a blockage of a blood vessel, and hemorrhagic, caused by bleeding into or around the brain (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2024).
