الوصف
In a world where technology is present in our day to day life, we should be following technology development to make our life and business easier than before and save money and time.
Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) is an important financial analytical tool which gives an insight to the viability and feasibility of a smart metering project. The smart metering system is an integrated system of smart meters, communication networks, and data management system that enables two-way communication between utilities and customers. The system provides many important functions that were not previously possible or had to be performed manually, smart metering also enables utilities to offer new time-based rate programs and incentives that encourage customers to reduce peak demand and manage energy consumption and costs.
The objective of this study is to analyze cost and benefits of the smart metering system and present a clear vision of ability using this system in General Electric Company Of Libya (GECOL). The research focuses on one of the important smart metering applications which is Time Of Use application (TOU), and apply this feature in GECOL large customers to reduce the network peak load.
Four different scenarios were used to study the CBA. In all of them the Benefit over Cost (B/C) was greater than one (B/C > 1) which means that the smart metering project is a cost-effective system.
The research providing a good insight into the cost structure of smart meters roll-out and operation and any other associated activities which will be subject to a regulated metering tariff shortly.
The outcomes of the research will then serve as a basis for making a decision on how the metering tariffs will use to reduce GECOL energy peak load
