The study attempted to answer the research questions and reach policies and mechanisms for the tourism development strategy for the Benghazi planning region, and to develop planning alternatives for sustainable tourism development for the region, through a methodology that began by following several research approaches, namely: the descriptive inductive approach: by tracking, investigating, and reviewing books and studies on the research topic, which provided An overview of current knowledge, monitoring the policies of foreign and Arab countries in their experiences to achieve sustainable tourism development and determining the criteria for achieving sustainable tourism destinations... and the descriptive analytical approach: a complete descriptive study of the characteristics of the study area related to the dimensions of sustainable development, on which the process of sustainable tourism development and change can be based. dc.description.abstractbstract This research deals with the study of how to develop the planning region of Benghazi spatially as a sustainable tourism development, by exploiting its environmental resources and its available untapped tourism components, while preserving them and preserving the assets that are subject to neglect, waste and encroachment at a time when the region lacks the entertainment and tourism industry. The importance of the study has emerged by finding another source and an economic base based on tourism development through which other activities can be established that push the comprehensive development process because the Libyan economy depends on income on one main source, which is the non-renewable natural resource (oil and gas), and this source cannot be considered A permanent source of national income due to fluctuations in the global market, as well as a source of polluting energy, and the world is moving towards environmentally friendly sustainable renewable energy sources. The study relied on systematic and organized strategic planning with clear directions and policies, which enables us to exploit the potential untapped resources and targets the current and future generations and the distant future and avoids any mistakes that may be made as a result of traditional tourism development.
