Iron deficiency is an important public health problem worldwide and common nutritional disorder. Normally in children in the early years of life, low hemoglobin concentrations might be considered a potential contributing factor to a cognitive disability, particularly in executive functions, and to cause cognitive deterioration and conversion of mild cognitive dysfunction to dementia , Leveles of hemoglobin (HB)below 11 g/dL due to negative cognitive, social, and emotional effects lead to irreversible behavioral squeals, even after appropriate treatment, when iron deficiency occurs in some disorders like Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), may increase the severity of psychomotor and behavioral problems. Mental impairment in children with autism seems to be related to the decrease in iron storage mainly in the central nervous system. Such phenomenal change may be due to the role of iron in intra neural enzymatic activity and in neurotransmitter packaging, reuptake and degradation, additionally in the relationship between iron and D2 dopamine receptors. Autistic children have a high prevalence of iron deficiency. Insufficient dietary iron intake is a reason of iron deficiency, and low iron intake associated with food selectivity which is very common in children with autistic disorder.
